Bref, nimic foarte european acolo.

How kind of him: Syed Kamall, leader of the Tories and of the ECR in the EU Parliament, addressed some questions to the Commission on behalf of a Romanian media mogul under enquiry, and of some Azeri agents captured on Armenian territory.

You would wonder why Syed Kamall asked those questions without having any precise knowledge about the aforesaid matters. Well, he says he did it on behalf of some unnamed “constituents” of his.

He thus asked the Commission what its services are ready to do about 1) “the welfare of two Azerbaijani citizens, Dilgam Ahmadov and Shahbaz Quliyev [Mr. Kamall even misspelled one name: it is actually Guliyev], who have been arrested by Armenian forces on the grounds of ‘incursion’ and ‘illegally crossing a border’ into the region of Nagorno Karabakh” (the two are jailed in Armenia, after having been proved to be Azeri agents)… then he also asked what would the Commission do “concerning the trial of Dan Adamescu, a German citizen, prominent businessman and newspaper proprietor operating in Romania”, who faces ignoble charges of bribery in Romania. (Adamescu is now in jail, having been convicted.)

When I contacted him, intrigued by so much care from his side for unknown, shady figures from the dodgy East, Syed Kamall had this to say:

“If I receive a request from a London constituent, I will use my role as their representative to relay their questions to the commission if I cannot answer them myself”…

Especially when he gets an offer that he can’t refuse, of course.
